Preparations for an univited guest

The remnants of Hurricane Ernesto are probably headed my way.

The biggest problem I think in store for us is lots of rain. We need it desperately, we had been on voluntary water restrictions. And usually when that happens we get the remnants of a tropical system to bring us out of it. Gaston did that a couple of years ago.

It hit me this morning that we might lose power (thank you DH!) so I'm doing a little preparation for that possibility.

Just in case I do get knocked offline, hope everyone has a Happy Labor Day weekend!!

Animal attraction

I've been watching Animal Planet.  *blinks* Yes, I've been staying up late watching animal cops (Phoenix quite a bit) shows and Meerkat Manor.

I just started watching Meerkat Manor and the first season ended. *sigh* now I have to wait until September to find out what happened to Shakespeare, who disappeared during the finale.  They are just so darn cute.  And it's like a little soap opera with non-dominant females sneaking off for trysts, splinter groups, and wars with other families.

The animal cops shows are some of my favorites.  The cases don't always turn out happy but they do tend to spotlight the ones where there's a good resolution.  I've always been one who roots for the underdog, and that's who the animal cops protect.

I'm thinking this is research and will end up in a story somewhere.

Last night, I watched Hurricane Rescues.  So many unhappy stories came out of Katrina, it was nice to see some happy ones. Of course, I cried like crazy during most of the reunions.

You know, one of the many things (and I do mean many) that has haunted me since Katrina, on CNN there was a live shot of people getting into boats when New Orleans flooded.  A man had his white dog, a beautiful big one, I think at least least part German Shepherd.  He wasn't going to be allowed to bring the dog in the boat and didn't want to leave her. I never saw the resolution.  To this day, I wonder what happened to the man, who was almost in tears about leaving his dog behind, and what happened to the dog.

Gone to the Zoo

Got food?

Yesterday, we went to the zoo. Had such a ball walking around (and around) the zoo looking at all the animals. Our favorites were feeding the giraffes and watching the tigers. The zoo has a huge white male and regular female. Both are Bengals. They are hoping eventually to have baby Bengals.

LOL one of the funniest things happened when we got home. My oldest took a picture of the kitty. When I was uploading all the pictures into my computer, I didn't see the kitty picture at the end. When we viewed the pictures as a slideshow, guess where the kitty picture popped up? In the middle of the tiger shots LOL.

So what's your favorite animal and why?

Love Match

I finished "Love Match" by Keira Andrews this week. It's a male/male and set in the tennis world. The whole backdrop made it an intriguing read for me. The relationship of the heroes was pretty intense and the pitfalls for them were believable.

One thing I really found that rang true for me was the reaction of a friend to one of the heroes coming out of the closet. It could have been glossed over, everything's fine, no problems were caused or it could have gone into homophobia land. Andrews mixed up the two extremes to find a balance I completely believed.

Save the Quiet Kitty

Authors banding together to help each other. I think it's wonderful. My understanding is that it will be used to help any authors in need. I know that after Katrina, there was an outpouring of support of support for those affected. The author community is a neat one.

Camille Anthony is the author of Tales of the Quiet Kitty Series, Women of Steel Series, Rb’Qarm Royal’s Series, Werewulf Journals Series, and A.O.E.M. (Agency of Extraordinary Mates) Series. Camille has come on hard times due to serious illness and lack of health care insurance. Camille was diagnosed in 1989 with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis, caused by exposure to asbestos while an employee of the State of California. Camille is now a full time author with no health insurance. She's in stage four of Pulmonary Sarcoidosis and can't get health insurance because of this pre-existing condition. Camille has been hospitalized several times in the last 9 months, and her illness has progressed to the point that she requires oxygen around the clock. Oxygen and hospital bills, as well as other medical expenses, are long term needs. The irony is, Camille makes just enough residual income from her writing to keep her from being eligible for Medicaid. Since Medicaid turned her down, the medical equipment company now wants their equipment back. Because of Camille's present situation...and because uninsured medical expenses are often a fact of life for authors and others who are self-employed...a nonprofit association, Help the Quiet Kitty, has been set up to accept and disburse donations. We hope to raise enough money, with your support, to not only cover Camille's current medical expenses, but to help other authors in crisis.

What can you do? There are several ways you can help. Go to www.savethequietkitty.com to make an immediate cash donation through PayPal or checks can be made to the address on the site. To donate medical equipment or supplies, or if you are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, please email Save The Quiet Kitty Fund by clicking on the picture below.

Rock on

I wrote 4000 words the last two days on a Melany project. I'm rather happy about that. I still have hopes of finishing Nathan and Henri by the time school starts.

Heh heh, I'm not ebil. As soon as I can share the cover, I will. LOL I'll plaster that sucker from here to eternity. As for a release date on said menage, Dinah's Dark Desire, let's just say VERY SOON. Possibly before school starts here *G*.

Back to one kitty

I feel like crud. But we ended up having to return the new kitty. The kids made her very nervous. She was spending more time under the bed than the dust bunnies. And I was spending more and more time coaxing her out. The health issue involved me doing something to her she didn't like, not a good way to endear me to her and wasn't getting better.

We decided for her sake, she needed a quieter home where she wouldn't be so nervous. My house just isn't that quiet. Arwen adjusted to that rather quickly and just gives us the kitty death glare when we get too loud. She deals with the kids rather well with warning taps (no claws) and moving away, but not hiding all the time, which this cat was doing.

I feel badly but at least she has a chance to find a nice quiet house where she can be happier. I don't think we made her happy. We wanted more from her than she could give, and she just wanted some quiet.

*sigh*

The kids have been informaed not to ask for a second cat for a long long time.

I will hopefully have some really really good news, something very pretty to share SOON.

Greetings from Edit and Kitty Land

Both things have been taking up my time this week. I think we are done with Melany edits and getting ready to send them back. Yipeeeee!

The new kitty has had some health issues. I don't think that started us all off on the right foot. We are taking it day by day. We haven't decided yet if we are keeping her. The new kitty sort of worried me the first few days with the health issues and her behavior. After Sheba's illness, well, I'm not prepared to walk down that road again right now and I was truthfully worried she was very ill. So we'll see.

The new kitty's name is Punkin. If she stays, we may change it. She's a calico but not a traditional one, more a pastel.

LOL we may have kitty up and kitty down. Punkin has been staying in my room because it was the easiest place to separate her from Arwen, our first kitty. This morning, even with the door open, she's staying upstairs in my room or the girl's room. Arwen's staying downstairs. There have been no all out fights yet. Mainly staring and hissing.
