Thirteen Songs I can't live without --Mechele Armstrong

1. Pour some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard: Best. Song. Ever.

2. Most anything by Aerosmith: I could list the songs but this one band would take up most of the list. Steven Tyler. Joe Perry. They rock.

3. Desperado by the Eagles: The Eagles are superb. As an aside, does anyone remember the made for tv movies based on this song?

4. Do you Believe in Love by Huey Lewis and the News: My first concert *G*.

5. Heaven by Bryan Adams: Amazing how many lines I remember (*bonus* what soap opera used it for a couple?)

6. Dancin’ with Dreams by Phil Vassar: a piano man in a guitar town indeed.

7. Beer for your horses by Toby Keith & Willie Nelson: Rumor has it, once Nelson found out the title he definitely wanted in on the song.

8. Wolf Trap and Fireflies by Carbon Leaf: Hard to choose between that and their version of Big Strong Man

9. Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon; Awooooooooooo

10. Ants Marching by Dave Matthews: Poetry at work.

11. Both American Pie by Don McClean and the Saga begins by Weird Al Yankovic. My husband says once you go Al, you can’t go back. *sigh* I find myself mixing up lyrics now.

12. Lighting Crashes by Live: Gives me shivers everytime.

13. In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel: John Cusack with his radio booming. Would love the song anyway but keep seeing Cusack when I hear it.

Thirteen Young Adult and Childrens's books (or serieses) I loved by Mechele Armstrong

1. The Three Investigators series by Robert Arthur--mysteries and three boys of differing abilities
2. The Black Stallion and Island Stallion serieses by Walter Farley--beautiful horses, need I say more?
3. Lion Houng by Jim Kjelgaard--an abused dog, a boy, and a mountain lion. Actually petty much anything by Jim Kjelgaard, Big Red, Outlaw Red, Irish Red, etc.
4. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson--Pirates, arggggh. Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver.
5. I will make you disappear by Carol Beach York--spooky book about two girls meddling with witchcraft
6. The secret of Van Rink's Cellar by Beverly Haskell Lee--Historical set in the Revolutionary war time with spies and suspense
7. The House of Thirty cats by Mary Calhoun--An ederly woman with a heart of gold and too many cats, and the girl determined to save them and get rid of the "evil" cat.
8. My mother the witch by Rose Blue--is her mother a witch or a healer?
9. Scruffy by Jack Stonely--a stray dog's adventures
10. Just So stories by Rudyard Kipling--contains many stories and I think some with the Jungle book.
11. The grounding of Group 6 by Julian F. Thompson--definite young adult reading. But I remembered it so vividly I had to buy a used copy. It's a about a group of kids off to summer camp, only they are not supposed to come home.
12. Oh the Places you'll go by Dr. Seuss--"Kid, you'll move mountains." Great inspirational book, too.
13. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton--Love the Curtis brothers and the adventures with their gang. The movie sports a very young Patrick Swayze and Tom Cruise.

Edited to add three more. How could I forgotten...

14. Madeline L'Engle--The Wrinkle in Time series made me love paranormal forever. Meg is just an awesome girl and the romantic underpinnings...oh my.
15. Judy Blume--From Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing to Deenie to Are you there God it's me, Margaret? she dominated a lot of my reading.
16. Wild Violets by Phyllis Green--another of those books that made such an impression me, I might have to find it someday. Two girls of different social statuses work on a friendship.

This and that

Why do I get such an unnerved feeling following behind a truck transporting live chickens? Especially when it gets off at the exit where I know there's a chicken processing plant. Maybe it has to do with the 13 chicks we've been going to visit at the kid's school. Might be a few days before I eat fried chicken again.

The kids and I watched Flicka this weekend. Awesome movie. I really enjoyed it. Tim McGraw did a great job as the dad. He's usually hit or miss for me with his music. Some songs I really like and others I change the station when they come on.

I liked the story focused on the girl's relationship with her family and with her horse, Flicka. They didn't try and add in a romance for her but kept true to the spirit of what I remember of the book. Course the main character in the book was a boy, but I think the flavor of the book was in the movie.

The oldest is reading Bridge to Teribithea right now. She says I need to read it. As I've been bored with everything I've picked up to read lately, I might just do that.

My muse has been lurking but she's tying to come out and visit. A new story. We'll see how it goes.

Thirteen Why's --Mechele Armstrong

1. Why does the unmatched sock go missing whenever I find its mate?
2. Why, whenever I give blood, do I have to get poked in both arms?
3. Why is playing Viva Pinata so much more fun than cleaning house?
4. Why doesn't my dog put her paw on the cat's head when Arwen is being nasty (Zoey is three times Arwen's size)?
5. Why, just when you think everything is nailed down about something, a board flies off?
6. Why can't chocolate be calorie free?
7. Why are baby chicks so cute? (We have thirteen of them at my kid's school!)
8. Why can an eight year old read an entire chapter book but can't hit the hamper with dirty laundry?
9. Why can't a grown man, who can make computers do anything, hit the hamper either?
10. Why can't my five year old hear me unless I say ice cream?
11. Why does it keep getting cool just when I think spring is here and the jungle in the kitchen can move outside?
12. Why does my cat get so cranky? *shows bite marks*
13. Why did they cancel Drive *sigh*?

You always remember your first

I always sweat that first review. I hope that my book came across like I want it to. But the only real test of this is release.

So I wait.

And the first review of Blood Lines: Currents is in.

Only five stars from JERR!!! I'm so excited.

Karen Haas said, "When I read the first excerpt from this book, I had to blow down the front of my shirt and fan myself. Despite its being a male/male romance that excerpt, detailing the events of Henri and Nathan’s first sight of each other, affected me as the hottest few paragraphs I’d ever seen. So I probably would have read this story even if it wasn’t the prequel to one of my favorite series. The book didn’t disappoint." And "If you are already a fan of Mechele Armstrong’s Bloodlines series, you will be thrilled with Currents. If you haven’t read Bloodlines yet, start here, you don’t know what you are missing."

May the muses have that first review

My first Thursday thirteen

Thirteen Things I'm thankful for --Mechele Armstrong

1. That Settler's Mine: The Rivals is done and off to my editor.
2. That The Rivals grew 9 K during editing to bring it up to 75 K. And I like it *Grins*
3. That my oldest daughter will be eight tomorrow. She's growing up too fast though.
4. That both kids, the hubby, and I are healthy.
5. For my cat. Because who wouldn't be thankful for a cat?
6. That my dog is getting braver and is so loving. LOL except to the hubby, who she still runs from.
7. For my friends. They love me and cheer me on always.
8. For my critique partners. They keep me straight.
9. For my editor. She always catches that one little thing I missed.
10. For my publisher. They've been supportive and have let my warped little mind go in any direction it may.
11. For my oldest. She's so smart, so girly girl and precise in a way I never was.
12. For my youngest. She's such a sweet and caring child already. I have that pointed out to me whenever I go up to school, by complete strangers.
13. For my hubby. He's understanding when "I must write." He brags about my writing at work. He's a keeper.
